Where It Happens
Ann Marie arranges supervision individually, and the catchment is the whole of Michigan: a Michigan approved supervisor can supervise a Michigan limited licensed counselor wherever in the state they work. In person, that is 4093 M-65, Hale, MI 48739, which is a straightforward run up I-75 and across on M-55 from Bay City, Saginaw or Flint. If you need to meet remotely, ask when you call.
What Supervision Here Is Like
Ann Marie spends supervision on case consultation about your own cases, and on the parts nobody teaches in a graduate program: what to do when a client will not engage, how to sit with somebody whose situation you cannot fix, how to write a note you would be content to read out in a hearing, and how to tell the difference between a clinical judgment and a nervous one.
Documentation is part of the work. The supervision record is what the board eventually reads.
Ann Marie supervises individually by default. Whether a group runs at any given time depends on who is accruing hours at the same time, so ask. The same arithmetic limits how many counselors Ann Marie can take on at once. If you want to know whether there is room right now, call.
Where the Rules Are, and Roughly What They Ask
Michigan's own administrative rules, at Mich. Admin. Code R 338.1781, set out the requirements a limited licensed counselor works under, including what supervision must involve. In outline, the rule requires a period of counseling experience under the supervision of an approved supervisor, with a minimum number of supervised hours and a minimum amount of direct supervision inside them, recorded as you go.
We leave the figures to the rule. The state has amended them before, and a number printed here would eventually be wrong in a place somebody was relying on it. Read the rule, read it alongside whatever your employer or graduate program requires, and bring your plan of supervision to the first conversation so that both of us are working from the same document.
The Shortage Is Real
Iosco, Ogemaw and Oscoda counties are federally designated a High Needs Mental Health Professional Shortage Area, HRSA designation 7261033101, and roughly 45,000 people here are counted as underserved. Every counselor who finishes supervision and stays in this part of the state is a direct answer to that, which is a large part of why Ann Marie supervises at all.
