Appointments and what to expect

Appointments are booked by phone, after a short conversation with a person. There is no booking form on this site and nothing to fill in before somebody has actually talked to you.

How to book

  1. Tell us how to reach you.

Call (989) 728-2364 during office hours, or leave your name and number on the request a call form.

  2. We call you back.

A few practical questions about what you are looking for, what your insurance is, and when you can come.

  3. You get a time.

The first appointment is longer than the ones after it and is mostly about getting to know each other.

The kinds of appointment

Initial appointment
The first one. Longer, and mostly about getting to know you and working out together what you want to work on.
60 minute session
The standard hour. Individual, couple or family.
30 minute session
A shorter session, which suits some people, some young children, and some stages of the work better than a full hour.
Classes and workshops
Anger management, co-parenting and blended family training, and the healthy boundaries workshop. See the programs page.
Clinical supervision and consulting
For counselors rather than clients. Supervision toward Michigan licensure is arranged individually.

What to bring to the first one

  • Your insurance card, or the details from it.
  • A note of anything you are already taking or have already tried, if it is relevant.
  • For a child, whoever has the legal authority to consent to their care, and any school paperwork that would be useful.
  • Nothing else. You do not need to have prepared what to say.

Hours

Office hours, Eastern time
Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm
Saturday and Sunday Closed

Cancelling or moving an appointment

Call the office as early as you can. Appointment slots in a shortage area do not go unused for long, and the earlier a time is freed the more likely somebody else gets it.

Cost

Most major insurance is accepted, and what you pay depends on your own plan. The insurance and fees page sets out which plans are accepted and exactly what to ask yours before you come. If you are paying for yourself you have a right to a Good Faith Estimate in writing before you start.

If you cannot wait for an appointment

Call or text 988 any time, or call Wellvance at 1-844-865-5569, 24 hours a day. If someone is in immediate danger, call 911. More crisis numbers.
