The Drive

From Tawas City it is M-65 inland and then straight on into Hale: 22.4 road miles and about 32 minutes in fair weather. From East Tawas it is 23.1 miles and about 35 minutes. National City is closer still, at about 20 minutes, and Whittemore, which most people from the Tawas area pass on the way, is 13.

Our office is on M-65 itself, one-story, with a covered entrance and parking behind the building. There is no parking structure, no lobby to find, and no elevator to wait for. In January that matters.

• Young children. Ann Marie works with children from age three. Most practices in this area start considerably later, and a parent looking for somebody to see a four-year-old runs out of options quickly.

• Illness and medical stress. Counseling alongside serious illness is one of the eight areas we work with, and the Tawas area sends a lot of people down to Saginaw and Ann Arbor for treatment.

Wellvance, formerly AuSable Valley Community Mental Health Authority, is the community mental health authority for Iosco, Ogemaw and Oscoda counties, and it has an office in Tawas City at 989-362-8636. For a Medicaid plan we do not accept, for services we do not provide, and for a crisis, they are the right call.
